This professional learning and collaborative planning session is designed to strengthen middle school ELA teachers’ capacity to deliver effective, standards-aligned literacy instruction as part of the district’s upcoming instructional materials adoption. Participants will analyze student literacy needs, review California ELA/ELD Standards alignment, and apply evidence-based instructional considerations to finalize recommended core and supplemental novel selections. The session will promote consistent implementation across middle school sites, support teacher effectiveness in planning rigorous and accessible literacy instruction, and produce documented outcomes, including finalized text recommendations, instructional rationale, and implementation considerations to improve student literacy achievement.
